Church of St. Vincent de Paul, 900 Madison Avenue, Albany

Thursday, February 29, 10:00 AM
Muslim Community Center, 21 N. Lansing Road, Colonie

Rabbi Hanan Schlesinger, a West Bank Orthodox rabbi, and Noor A’wad, a Palestinian activist, both profoundly affected by decades of violent conflict in the thin strip of disputed land that both call home, will share their journeys toward understanding and working with "the other" in these presentations. Free parking is available at both venues.

The two are peacemakers touring the U.S. representing Roots/Shorashim/Judur (, an Israeli-Palestinian grassroots initiative for understanding and nonviolence located in the Gush-Etzion-Hebron area of the West Bank, a region that frequently experiences the pain of conflict.

Sponsors of this event include the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Albany’s Nigel Wright Fund, Westminster Presbyterian Church, the Church of St. Vincent de Paul’s Louise de Marillac Fund, and Capital Region members of the Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom, Unity of Albany, the Story Circle of the Capital District and Rabbi Debora S. Gordon.

March to Celebrate Women
Sunday, March 3, 2024, 9:00 - 11:00 AM
Schenectady City Hall Front Steps, Jay Street

Women belong in all places where decisions are being made. It shouldn't be that women are the exception." - Ruth Bader Ginsburg

March 1987, the 100th Congressional Body, by way of L. 100-9, set forth the proclamation that made the month of March "Women's History Month!" From that time, and well before, women have made considerable contributions worldwide and within their communities. However, yet, and still, women are set aside, categorized, and subjugated, but still, they march forward.

Therein, with excitement, we are asking our members to form a group to join in and march with joy and solidarity in Schenectady’s Women’s March Celebration!

We will be marching on Sunday, March 3rd, 2024! Let Arnie know if you are interested in joining and/or helping to organize our group.

Please mark your calendars, gather your friends, families, and organizations, and come WALK to celebrate and honor all women! As March has been deemed Women’s History Month, we will all walk in joy and solidarity 1.5 miles through Schenectady.

We are devastated by the current situation in Israel and Gaza. Join us to gain an understanding of both Jewish and Palestinian narratives, by placing them in their historical context. Understand the origins and ongoing development of the conflict between these two peoples. There will be time for questions.

With Rabbi Lawrence Englander, Rabbi Emeritus of Solel Congregation in Mississauga, Ontario and co-editor of “The Fragile Dialogue: New Voices in Liberal Zionism” (CCAR Press, 2018). Rabbi Englander helped establish two interfaith organizations: a community food bank and a non-profit housing corporation and, in 2005, was awarded Canada’s highest civilian honor, Member of the Order of Canada, for his justice work.
